Kiyomizu Dera Temple in Kyoto
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines in Kyoto and many of them are absolutely gorgeous. You would need years to visit all of them. During 4 days I spent in Kyoto I managed to visit just a dozen or so. Today I would like to share photo of one of the most well-known and important ones – Kiyomizu Dera. It’s a Buddhist temple situated on the hill overlooking city of Kyoto and surrounded by a number of cherry trees (which were fortunately in their full bloom when I was taking this image) what makes it a perfect spot to photograph sakura in Kyoto. Also for that reason this place is really crowded!
As it was sunset and dynamic range of the scene was quite high, I captured 5 photos 1 stop apart and loaded them into Photomatix Pro 5. In Photomatix I used Contrast Optimizer tone-mapper to create natural looking HDR image which I then finished using ON1 Effects 10 plug-in to improve contrast and colour saturation a little bit.
If you would like to learn how to capture such images, make sure to read my free HDR tutorial.
