Kegon Falls in Nikko

Kegon Falls in Nikko

Kegon Falls near mountain town of Nikko is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan (in fact it’s believed to be one of the 3 most spectacular waterfalls in Japan) and one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen so I simply had to visit it and take a few photos. Especially as Nikko is just around 2 hours by train from Tokyo. From there it’s a bit less than an hour by bus to get to Kegon Falls.

Today I would like to share on of those images – it’s very tight crop of the waterfall, which is around 90 meters high. I also decided to use long exposure to create smooth water effect and make whole scene calmer. To produce this result it was sufficient to use exposure of 1 second. But despite using such “short” long exposure I still had to use 4-stop neutral density filter as I was taking this photo around 10 AM and there was plenty of light.
