Yesterday I had 30th birthday and was very lucky to spend it in London. I didn’t take many photos there (I even didn’t have my tripod with me) but I still captured a few images worth sharing.
The first one was taken from Aqua Shard restaurant at the 31st level of the Shard, where I had some wonderful breakfast. The food was delicious and the view was stunning and even though it wasn’t sunrise the light was still very soft and dramatic. Wonderful experience! And the price of the breakfast was comparable to visiting the viewing terrace 🙂
Taking photo and post-processing
As I mentioned I didn’t have my tripod with me. In fact I even didn’t have my mighty 5D MK IV! Instead I took with me just old Sony NEX-6 mirrorless with 10-18 mm lens. But it was enough to take this image.
As dynamic range was pretty high with dark interior and very bright sky I decided to go with HDR workflow. So I took 3 exposures at 2 EV spacing (hand-held) and then loaded them into Photomatix Pro 5.1 where I applied Contrast Optimizer tone-mapper.
After that I loaded the image into Photoshop, where I first applied ON1 Effects 10 to add some vignetting and sharpness. Then I used Nik’s Color Efex Pro to add some glow and I finished the image with some luminosity masking magic to improve midtones and brightest highlights contrast.
