New section: sample HDR photos

Posted in: blog, download|

Yesterday I added completely new section to my blog: Sample HDR photos to play with.

In this section I share some of my bracketed photos so you can experiment with them if you don’t have your own bracketed files yet or you just want to play with photos taken by other photographer. At the moment there are 4 bracketed sets, including some of my favorite HDR images, but I intend to add more in the nearest future. Let me know your thoughts on this idea! And if you post-process any of the images, make sure to share it with me 馃檪

Also addition of this section is part of bigger plan of completely revamping my HDR tutorial. I should have some news on that pretty soon (as works on it are very advanced already). Stay tuned!

Autumn Presets for Lightroom

As autumn is just around the corner I thought that it is a good idea to remind you that there is nice collection of autumn presets for Lightroom available on my blog. Of course these presets are completely free and they will make your autumn photos warmer and more vibrant to portray this period of the year in the most beautiful way.

Here’s the post in which I originally shared them:

But if you just want to grab them without reading lengthy descriptions, here’s direct download link:

Featured photo – Autumn in Tatra Mountains

I’m still waiting for my first autumn shots this year but I should have some great images in a few weeks – right now there aren’t that many yellows and reds in the trees yet but this is supposed to change very soon. So today I would like to share image I took 2 years ago in Tatra mountains, Poland. The image is simple but this yellow tree, together with a path and quite warm light looked quite inviting for me so I decided to take a photo of it.

If you would like to create such photos yourself, make sure to read my HDR tutorial.

Photomatix Pro Presets – 111 Free HDR Presets

New Photomatix Pro Presets

It’s been a while since I shared any Photomatix Pro presets. For that reason today I decided to update my Mega Pack collection to add new presets I created in the last few months. This time collection features 111 free presets!

You can download the presets below:

What’s in the bundle?
  • 15 completely new and never released presets, most of which use my new favourite processing method, i.e. Contrast Optimizer,
  • All presets that I shared up to now (96 presets).

Summing up, the collection contains 111 free presets good for landscape, architecture and street HDR photography. There are both very realistic presets and more artistic ones, colourful and black & white – everyone should find something for himself.

Please note that some of the presets will only work in Photomatix Pro 5 or newer as some of them require Fusion/Real-Estate or Contrast Optimizer which were introduced in Photomatix Pro 5.

Note: if you downloaded some of my presets previously you can delete or overwrite them as all of the previous presets are included in this pack.

Here are the instructions, on how to install the presets*:

  1. Download the presets and extract them on your disk.
  2. Start Photomatix Pro 4.2 or newer. If you haven’t updated to 4.2 visit HDRsoft homepage and download your upgrade (in case you’re eligible to it).
  3. Open any image and tonemap it to go to the tonemapping preview mode.
  4. In the Presets window change tab from “Built-In” to “My Presets”.
  5. In the combo-box in the upper part of the Presets window select “Import Presets…” item.
  6. Navigate to the directory where you extracted presets and select all the files you want to import. You might also want to specify category for the imported presets (eg. “Downloaded”). To do this just fill in the text field at the bottom of the Import window.
  7. Accept the selection and wait for the thumbnails to appear. Voila!

* In case of older versions than 4.2 you can follow instructions I posted here.

Daily photo – Golden Sunset

And it’s time for a daily HDR photo – it was taken during beautiful golden sunset in Warsaw, Poland. I took as many as 7 exposures here (because by including the sun in the frame dynamic range of that scene became really high).

HDR Tutorial po polsku (Polish Translation)

HDR Tutorial po polsku

Today post will be different in a sense that it is targeted towards my Polish readers… so the rest of this post will be written in my native languange 馃檪 It’s an exception – for posts written in English visit my blog again in a few days time.

Generalnie zawiera on niemal wszystko to co wersja angielska, z wyj膮tkiem cz臋艣ci Dodatki, opisuj膮cej pewne szczeg贸lne zastosowania HDR oraz bardziej specjalistyczne narz臋dzia. Nauczysz si臋 z niego zatem:

  • teoretycznych podstaw fotografii HDR,
  • jak robi膰 zdj臋cia HDR,
  • jak rozwi膮zywa膰 typowe problemy wyst臋puj膮ce w przypadku fotografii HDR,

Je艣li odzew b臋dzie pozytywny, prawdopodobnie dodam te brakuj膮ce fragmenty do poradnika.

Oczywi艣cie czekam na sugestie i komentarze. A mo偶e co艣 jest niejasne? Co艣 poprawi膰?

C贸偶, jest kilka powod贸w.

2 New wallpapers

Posted in: download, landscape, macro, wallpaper|

2 new wallpapers

Few months have passed since I updated Wallpapers section for the last time so today I uploaded two new wallpapers there. They are both forest scenes, both taken in autumn in different regions of Poland: upper one in gorgeous Masuria lake region and bottom one in Tatra mountains in southern Poland.

To download either of wallpapers, click on its thumbnail to open full-resolution image, right-click it and select Save from context menu.

I hope you like them! For more free HD wallpapers from me, visit the Wallpapers section on this blog.

A lot of work

As you have probably noticed updates to my blog are much less frequent in the last few weeks. It’s because I’m very busy right now (it’s not only because of job but also other things I have to take care of at the moment) and this will probably be the same for the next couple of weeks but hopefully not too long. After that time, however, I should have more time to share new content & tips here. And to take more photos as last few months were rather poor in this regard.

3000 downloads of HDR tutorial

3000 downloads of HDR tutorial eBook

I’m very happy to announce that after just 3 months since its release my free HDR tutorial eBook has been downloaded 3000 times! When I shared it initially I didn’t expect such good results. I hoped for 1000 downloads or so, so I’m very positively surprised! Thank you everyone who downloaded it. And thank you for all the positive comments I got after sharing it! I hope you learnt something from it 馃檪
BTW if you liked it I would really appreciate that if you could share a link to it so more people could read it.
If you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can get it here. If you’re still not convinced you should read it, I’d like to mention that in it I share almost whole my workflow – from taking HDR images, to post-processing them in Photomatix Pro. Besides I give some general tips and talk a little bit about the theory. So if you like my High Dynamic Range photos and would like to learn how to capture such images yourself, this tutorial can really help you.

Daily photo – Mountain huts

Today I would like to take a short break from sharing photos from my trip to Yucatan, Mexico to keep you interested (there are still plenty of images from this trip I’d love to share though!). Instead I decided to upload photo I took last autumn in Polish Tatra Mountains. It shows a few mountain huts in Hala G膮sienicowa.
