Basic info

This photo was taken during late sunset in Madrid, Spain and it shows Royal Palace. It’s great candidate for HDR because of extreme dynamic range – palace in foreground is very dark while the sky is still rather bright. Additionally street lanterns were already on what made the scene even more challenging. Apart from light, another challenge are ghosts – it was very busy Easter period so there were dozens of tourists walking in front of the palace and in front of the lens.

Post-processing tips

  • There are quite a lot of ghosts in this image so make sure to remove them in Photomatix. I suggest using Selective Deghosting for that
  • Pay attention to halo artifacts – the building is much darker than the sky so there is a chance they will get introduce around that area
  • If you find color balance to be too warm, try playing with Color Temperature slider in Photomatix to make it bluer
